Steve McShane is an agribusinessman in the Salinas Valley of California. He is owner & general manager of McShane’s Nursery & Landscape Supply in Salinas and a partner in Converted Organics in Gonzales, CA. Steve has a b.s. in Soil Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.
Steve plays a major role in the community he lives in as a Salinas City Councilman since 2010. Steve has been a strong advocate for public safety, economic development & the arts. Steve is founder of the Salinas Neighborhood Council, the Salinas Graffiti Task Force & The Salinas Valley Food and Wine Festival. Steve developed the City’s first mobile “app” for the iPhone and Android Marketplaces. Steve’s roots in agriculture go deep as he previously served as Director of R&D, Food Safety and Quality Assurance for NewStar Fresh Foods and as a product Manager for Taylor Farms. While at NewStar, Steve was director of a national industry testing center for radio frequency identification (RFID) in the fresh fruit, floral and vegetable industries. Also while at Newstar, Steve put food safety programs and logistics in place for vegetable shipments to the United States from Mexico and South America. When not working, Steve loves hiking, traveling to far reaches of the planet and growing exotic fruits in his impressive garden.
